Title:
Health care in northwest Syria
Description:
The 160 health workers employed at Atmeh Maternity and paediatrics Hospital, supported by the NGO HIHFAD (Hand in hand for Aid and Development), serve a number of IDP camps in Atmeh, Qah and Aqrabat as well as the local population in northern Idleb on the border to Turkey. The hospital consists of e.g. a pediatric and maternity clinic, pharmacy, radiology department, operating theatre, ambulance services, hematology, a lab and a clinic dedicated to gender-based violence. The hospital, that’s part of WHO’s referral network in NW-Syria, has seen a steep rise in caseloads as a consequence of 960,000 people being displaced since December 2019 due to hostilities. © WHO/Khalil Ashawi
